He taught composition at the Royal College of Music in London and was Professor of Music at Cambridge University. A well-respected educator and composer, he is best known for his choral works. His "Beati Quorum Via," often described as pastoral or sublime, is a staple of Anglican choral music and is often performed in liturgies and concerts.
