For Woodwind Quintet
Delight your audiences with this advanced-intermediate digital download arrangement for woodwind quintet of "A Spoonful of Sugar" from the movie Mary Poppins. It is perfect for Pops recitals, weddings, background dinner music gigs, Disney- or movie-themed programs, and especially children's concerts and educational outreach. This American classic was written for college and professional ensembles and has the flutist doubling on piccolo. As always, I have included an alternate bass clarinet part in lieu of a missing bassoon.
American brothers Richard and Robert Sherman wrote this delightful song in 1964 for the Disney film Mary Poppins. The song title comes from an anecdote: the composer's son was given a polio vaccine orally with a sugar cube to help with the bitterness. So, literally, "A spoonful of sugar helped the medicine go down." Originally scored for a studio orchestra, I hope you enjoy these settings for winds.
