This intermediate clarinet choir arrangement of Georges Bizet's iconic "March of the Toreadors," from Act I of his dynamic and fiery opera Carmen, is a classic. This transcription of a Romantic Era work is perfect for recitals, contests/competitions, music conferences, graduations, special events, children's concerts (it was featured in the classic cartoon “What’s Opera, Doc?”), and educational outreach performances. The arrangement was written for advanced high school, college, and professional ensembles. I have included an alternate Bb Clarinet IV part in lieu of a missing Alto clarinet. I have also included a Bb Contra Bass Clarinet part as an alternate or in addition to the ContraAlto Clarinet part. This movement is triumphant, bold, and celebratory, featuring catchy, rhythmic music that is used as a fanfare for the bullfighters' entrance. This is another captivating audience favorite.
Here are some fun questions about the “March of the Toreadors.” First, what is the name of the cartoon based on Bizet's "March of the Toreadors" from Carmen?
Second, Bizet's "March of the Toreadors" appears in which popular video game?
Finally, which popular children's TV show features Bizet's "March of the Toreadors" with new lyrics?
This movement is part of a five-part suite I wrote for clarinet choir, based on Bizet’s opera Carmen. To find the answers to these questions and to learn more about my inspiration for writing these five arrangements, click here to read my CMP Blog Post.
The other four movements from my five-movement suite “Selections from Carmen,” "Aragonaise," "Seguidilla," "Habanera," or "Danse Bohème," are available to purchase separately here in my Shop.
However, if you buy the entire suite, Selections from Carmen, which includes all five movements, you save 40% off the total cost.
