Thoroughly Modern Millie

For Woodwind Quintet

Delight your audiences with this lively, advanced-intermediate arrangement of James Van Heusen's "Thoroughly Modern Millie" from the musical and movie Thoroughly Modern Millie--instantly downloadable for your next performance. The arrangement is perfect for Pops concerts, (post) wedding music, Dixieland programs, Broadway-or movie-themed nights, children's concerts, or educational outreach. It was written for upper-level college ensembles and professional woodwind quintets. As always, I have included an alternate bass clarinet part in lieu of a missing bassoon. One important performance note: the music is NOT swung; it's 1920s jazz--think Charleston.

This iconic American tune was originally written in 1967 for the movie musical, Throughly Modern Millie, starring Julie Andrews, which won an Academy Award for Best Original Score. In 2002, the book was adapted into a stage musical starring Sutton Foster, which won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. This lively, upbeat 1920s-style jazz song offers a high-energy, infectious tune your audience will hum all the way home. Originally scored for a pit orchestra, I hope you enjoy this unique setting for winds.
