(Marche des Parachutistes Belges)
For Woodwind Quintet
Charm your audiences with this intermediate arrangement for woodwind quintet of Pierre Leemans' delightful piece, "March of the Belgian Paratroopers--instantly downloadable for your next performance. This chamber music transcription is based on a European concert band standard and is perfect for recitals, background dinner music gigs, weddings, contests, competitions, children's concerts, and educational outreach events. This short, engaging piece can break up a long program and give listeners a brief break from heavier pieces.
Written towards the end of World War II, in 1945, this march is called a "patrol" march as it emulates the sound of a marching band as it passes by; it starts soft, as if in the distance, increases in volume as it approaches, and then fades away as it passes. This arrangement was written for most ensembles, from advanced high school ensembles to professional quintets. NOTE: The flute player will double on piccolo for this piece, and as always, I have included an alternate bass clarinet part in lieu of a missing bassoon. Originally scored for a concert band, I hope you enjoy this unique setting of a charming European band classic.
