For Woodwind Quintet
Captivate your audiences with this enchanting intermediate arrangement for woodwind quintet of the "Overture" from the musical The King and I--instantly downloadable for your next performance. This arrangement includes the classic songs:
🎶Something Wonderful
🎶I Whistle a Happy Tune
🎶I Have Dreamed
🎶Getting to Know You
🎶March of the Siamese Children
🎶Shall We Dance?
This intermediate arrangement is great for recitals, weddings, Pops concerts, educational outreach, and Broadway- and movie-themed concerts. It is written for most ensembles, from advanced high school groups to college ensembles and professional quintets. This arrangement calls for the Oboe to double on English Horn, and as always, I have included an alternate bass clarinet part in lieu of a missing bassoon.
American songwriters Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II teamed up in 1943 to write Broadway musicals. They went on to create the most successful songwriting team in the history of the American Musical Theater. Their several collaborations have earned them multiple awards, including the prestigious EGOT status. Their 1951 musical The King and I featured the creative talents of legendary orchestrator Robert Russell Bennett and Tony Award-winning choreographer Jerome Robbins. The musical went on to win five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and five Academy Awards for its 1956 movie-musical adaptation. Originally written for a pit theater orchestra, I hope you enjoy this unique setting for winds of a classic Broadway overture.
