I appreciate all the love and support you have given me over the last year, but for the next six months, I need to step back from the blog and focus on writing arrangements. I am prepping for my first two conventions next year, TMEA and ICA ClarinetFest, and want to have a robust catalog to offer at these two well-known conferences. I’ll be back in December with more anecdotes, tales from the road, music trivia questions, and passions for music.

Black Horse Troop - for woodwind quartet
This intermediate digital download arrangement for woodwind quartet of John Philip Sousa's classic march, "The Black Horse Troop," is perfect for recitals, contests, competitions, patriotic or Americana events, weddings, background dinner music gigs, and formal events. It is a short, engaging piece that can break up a long program and give the ears a brief hiatus from some of the heavier pieces on the program. This 20th-century traditional American march was written for professional, college, and upper-level high school ensembles.
Sousa wrote "The Black Horse Troop" for Cleveland’s famous Ohio National Guard Cavalry, known as Troop A. He was well acquainted with Troop A and was himself quite an expert horseman. The lilting melodies in its pleasing 6/8 meter, imitating the clip-clop of horse hooves, along with its energetic "dogfight" strain and upper woodwind obbligato, will make this American classic a definite hit with your audiences. Originally scored for a full concert band, I hope you enjoy this setting for woodwinds.
